ANDRE COLLOT 1897-1976
One of the most prolific French book illustrators of the C20, Andre Collot's work ranges from the indifferent to the exceptional. He became known for his erotic art, but was equally at home illustrating swashbuckling classics viz. 'Les Trois Mousquetaires' or moody and gothic literature, whilst several of the great classic novels were embellished by his hand - Le Père Goriot - Tartarin de Tarascon etc. The engravings for the 1963 edition of 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' are amongst the finest illustrations of their genre, and probably the best ever for Coleridge's famous poem.
